At a UN Global Compact Network Lebanon event on international standards and reporting requirements for export readiness, Minister of Industry Joe Issa El Khoury said sustainability has become a core condition for market access rather than an optional consideration. He highlighted carbon-related trade measures, circular-economy requirements, packaging standards, due diligence and traceability, and said credible monitoring, reporting and verification systems are increasingly necessary for financing, market access and investor confidence. He added that the Ministry is integrating sustainability into national industrial policy, advancing Extended Producer Responsibility based on the polluter-pays principle, and seeking better alignment among trade, industrial, environmental and financial policies so Lebanese industry can be competitive, trusted and ready for future markets.
