Siblin Cement Factory, rehabilitation and reforestation of affected properties in Al-Aychiya Decision by the MoI, communicated to the Ministries of Interior and Environment

The MoI issued a memo to the Siblin Cement Factory for “the rehabilitation and reforestation of affected areas in Al-Aychiya zone with a maximum of a three months period that shall not include by any means quarrying or transport of any soil for industrial use, but shall be limited to the works of rehabilitation and reforestation”.
 
The MoI’s memo to Siblin Cement Factory stated:
 
 “Whereas, you have been extracting soil to be used in the manufacturing of cement at Siblin Cement Factory pursuant to Letter no. 1787-1590 issued on 13/5/2019 by the MoI to the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities (MoIM) to benefit from the period granted by the Council of Ministers under Decision no. 45 dated 21/3/2019 for the legally permitted quarries and crushers,
 
Whereas, the MoI and the Financial Public Prosecution received complaints on environmental damages caused by the quarrying works,
 
Pursuant to the inspection conducted by the MoI on Monday June 17th, 2019, where findings showed actual environmental damages caused by such works,
 
Therefore, the MoI requests hereby that you complete the rehabilitation and reforestation of the damaged real estate within a maximum period of three months which shall not include by any means, any works of quarrying or transport of any type of soil destined for industrial use, but shall be limited to the works of rehabilitation and reforestation”. The MoI sent a letter for each of the MoIM and the MoE with regards to this matter.

Subject: Follow-up on the works of Siblin Cement Factory in terms of allowing transport of clay soil as part of the primary materials used in the manufacturing of cement.
 
Reference: Letter no. 1687-1590 addressed to your ministry on 13/5/2019
      With reference to the above-mentioned subject and reference,
Whereas it has been shown that, the works of quarrying and transport of clay soil used as one of the primary materials of cement manufacturing, had caused environmental damages confirmed through the inspection conducted by the MOI on June 17th, 2019,
The MoI would like to inform you herewith, as part of the follow-up on the Siblin Cement Factory works, that a memo was issued to the company concerned, for the rehabilitation and reforestation of the damaged real properties within a period of three months which shall not include by any means, quarrying or transport of any type soil destined for industrial use, but shall be limited to the works of rehabilitation and reforestation”.
